GRAS joins the Latin America Coffee Carbon Footprint Baseline Study as a technical partner along with Meo Carbon Solutions and 4C Services.

In a significant step towards sustainable coffee production, GRAS, along with Meo Carbon Solutions and 4C Services, will serve as the technical support team (TSP) for the Latin America Coffee Carbon Footprint Baseline Study. Spearheaded by Conservation International under the Sustainable Coffee Challenge, this initiative aims to establish an industry-accepted carbon footprint baseline for Arabica and Robusta coffee in Brazil, Colombia, Honduras, Mexico, and Peru.

The Sustainable Coffee Challenge is a broad industry initiative seeking to make coffee the world’s first sustainable agricultural product. This project involves collaboration with many coffee supplier partners, who are companies that source and trade coffee.

Key Objectives and Methodologies of the Latin America Coffee Carbon Footprint Baseline Study

  • Building Capacity in the Supply Chain: Enhancing the knowledge and skills of supply chain actors in carbon footprint accounting and efficient data collection through comprehensive virtual training programs and field trials.
  • Improving Data Collection and Analysis: Standardizing and advancing methods for collecting, sharing, and analyzing data to ensure accuracy and reliability. This project also benefits from building a standardized coffee database, ensuring sufficient data for providing insights in future projects.
  • Promoting Collaboration: Encouraging pre-competitive collaboration by engaging supplier partners, and other stakeholders in data collection and analysis processes to drive effective climate action and sustainability initiatives.

At GRAS, we are dedicated to creating a sustainable future for coffee production, reinforcing the industry’s commitment to environmental responsibility and climate action. The Latin America Coffee Carbon Footprint Baseline Study represents a crucial step towards a more sustainable coffee industry, and we are proud to contribute to this initiative. Our efforts in this study underscore our commitment to achieving measurable environmental impact and fostering collaboration across the coffee sector.
